Event Will Focus on the Key Role of Standardization in Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth

The World Standards Cooperation (WSC) - a partnership of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - will host a roundtable discussion on "The Role of Standardization in Innovation and Entrepreneurship" at the University of Washington in Seattle on January 22-23, 2015. The high-level event will bring together international standards professionals, academics, and representatives of government agencies, business, and industry to discuss ways to promote dialogue and collaboration for the sake of innovation and economic growth.

As those in the standardization community are well aware, standards play a critical role in technical evolution and facilitate the development of new markets and trade. They allow investments and risks associated with the advancement of new technologies and applications to be shared, and foster the development of innovative ideas.

The day-and-a-half event will feature brief presentations covering these and related topics from different perspectives, with an emphasis on exchanging views and proposing initiatives for cooperation through open discussions. Professors, researchers, and academic leaders; executives of standards institutes; industry representatives and entrepreneurs; government leaders; and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

WSC was established in 2001 to strengthen and advance the voluntary consensus-based international standards systems of IEC, ISO, and ITU.
