People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Michael Merker to serve as associate executive director of standards and certification. In this role, Mr. Merker will administer ASME's engineering codes and standards activity, as well as any associated training, conformity assessment, and certification programs. He will also remain a member of the ASME Executive Leadership Team. Prior to assuming this position, Mr. Merker held numerous roles of increasing responsibility at ASME, contributing greatly to the Society's expanding conformity assessment programs worldwide. He has also been instrumental in developing and growing ASME's digital publishing activity. Michael Merker, with more than 30 years at the Society, has the necessary experience, breadth of knowledge, and business acumen to successfully carry on the important work of standards and certification in the global engineering marketplace," said Thomas G. Loughlin, executive director of ASME.The American Concrete Institute (ACI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced several staff appointments.
John K. Conn is ACI's new director of chapter activities. Mr. Conn will guide the Institute's strategic direction in regards to its chapter members, including 57 domestic chapters, 44 international chapters, and 93 student chapters. He has worked with ACI since 2004, when he served as manager of certification. Since 2009,he has also managed ACI's chapter activities. Mr. Conn brings nearly 30 years of experience to the role, with expertise in certification administration, program development, project management, marketing communications, and training facilitation. Kanette S. Mwanjabala has been named ACI's coordinator of chapter services. Ms. Mwanjabala will create, coordinate, and implement programs to support the effectiveness and productivity of ACI chapters. She recently oversaw the development of the ACI Marketing Toolkit and has experience in global outreach efforts. ACI also announced a title change for Cheryce N. Johnson's role. Ms. Johnson will be the Institute's coordinator of chapter awards, and will continue to support ACI chapter awards and lead the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards.Submit an Announcement
