CSA Offers Tips for Safe Use of Turkey Fryers
CSA Group, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of safety tips for users of outdoor turkey fryers this fall. Tips include:

  • Ensure that the turkey fryer is on a stable, level, non-combustible surface. It cannot be on a wooden deck.

  • Dry the turkey outside and in before putting it in the oil. Some marinades may react with the hot fryer oil.

  • Never heat the oil above 400F (200C). Turn the gas off if the oil begins to smoke.

  • Do not move the pot or drain the oil until it has cooled to 115F (45F) or less.
