NIST Seeks Members for Community Resilience Panel
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is seeking members for a new panel that aims to reduce the toll of natural, technological, and human-induced hazards on communities in the United States.
The Community Resilience Panel will bring together community and infrastructure systems stakeholders in an effort to identify gaps in standards and policies, and to develop initiatives to improve community resilience. The panel also aims to create a repository of information on community resilience planning and implementation, including guidance documents, reference materials, and tools.
The first meeting of the panel will be held on November 9 in Gaithersburg, MD. To learn more and to join the panel, see the NIST news release.
IEEE Committee on Transportation Recruiting New Members for Working Groups
IEEE, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is seeking new members for several working groups (WGs) of its Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation (IEEE SCC42).
IEEE SCC42 coordinates the organization's standardization activities related to transportation, connected vehicles, autonomous/automated vehicles, inter- and intra-vehicle communications, and other types of transportation electrification. The following working groups are now recruiting new members:
IEEE SCC42 WG2040, Standard for Connected, Automated and Intelligent Vehicles: Overview and Architecture Working Group
IEEE SCC42 WG2040.1, Standard for Connected, Automated and Intelligent Vehicles: Taxonomy and Definitions Working Group
IEEE SCC42 WG2040.2, Standard for Connected, Automated and Intelligent Vehicles: Testing and Verification Working Group
IEEE SCC42 TF1, Cybersecurity in Transportation Task Force
IEEE SCC42 TF2, Road Electrification Task Force
IEEE SCC42 AG1, Global Policy Advisory Group
Working groups meet monthly or bimonthly through WebEx, with one or two face-to-face meetings each year. To join one of the groups, contact Dr. Yu Yuan ([email protected]).
Upcoming Webinar to Discuss Transitioning Science Careers beyond Academia
Science and engineering professionals who have spent considerable time in academia can gain some information on transitioning their careers into other industries in an upcoming webinar, "Transitioning Your Career Beyond Academia." Sponsored in part by ANSI member the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and IEEECS, a professional society of IEEE, the webinar will guide its listeners in how to present their value to employers using the right language and strategies to land the job. Attendees will learn how to research, prepare, and transition to a new career, how to choose a field outside of academia that is a good fit, and tactics for maintaining professional connections to higher education.
The free webinar will be held on November 5 from 2 to 3 pm EST. Click here to learn more and to register.

American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry (ABMSP) Applies for ANSI Accredited Standards Developer Status
The American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry (ABMSP), a new ANSI organizational member in 2014, has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (SDO) and proposed operating procedures for documenting ABMSP-sponsored ANS. ABMSP's proposed scope of standards activity is the tools, appliances and related processes used by and serving podiatric physicians, their supporting community of interest and their patients. Standards developed by the ABMSP SDO will include but are not limited to orthoses and prostheses of the lower extremity and ankle. The first standards to be addressed by the ABMSP SDO will be related to orthoses and prostheses for the diabetic limb.
For questions or comments, contact Steven B. Permison, MD, acting director of ABMSP SDO (301.537.7019; [email protected]). Please submit any comments to ABMSP by November 16, 2015, with a copy to [email protected]. You may view or download a copy of ABMSP's proposed operating procedures from ANSI Online during the public review period at www.ansi.org/accredPR.
Crane Power Line Safety Organization Applies for ANSI Accredited Standards Developer Status
The Crane Power Line Safety Organization (CPLSO), a new ANSI organizational member in 2015, has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (SDO) and proposed operating procedures for documenting CPLSO-sponsored ANS. CPLSO's proposed scope of standards activity is crane products and work practices when working near high-voltage power lines.
