People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Todd Boppell its chief operating officer (COO). In this newly created position, Boppell will work directly with Jay Timmons, NAM president and CEO, to lead the association's internal operations. He will manage the finance and administration division, oversee membership and strategic development, and serve on the board of directors.

Mr. Boppell has served as the interim COO for the NAM since August. In 2012, he cofounded Meshfrog, Inc., a consulting company that assists organizations in aligning their technologies with their business objectives. Prior to that, Mr. Boppell was president of Nexa Technologies, a software company that builds and hosts stock-trading platforms.

"Todd is a proven leader who understands that associations of the future must adapt and evolve to continue delivering results for our members," said Timmons. "With Todd as our COO, the NAM will continue to tackle new challenges, proactively seeking out innovative ways to advance the goals of manufacturers across the country. We are thrilled with the solutions Todd has delivered for our entire team over the past few months and are excited to move forward with him at the operations helm. Todd's vision, talents and commitment to the NAM will be an asset for our members and the more than 12 million men and women who make things in America."

SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has named Ashley Stoney its director of communications. In this role, Ms. Stoney will head media relations, serve as the primary media contact for the organization, handle executive communications, and oversee the organization's social media program.

Prior to joining SPI, Ms. Stoney worked for Widmeyer Communications, leading communications initiatives for Burning Glass Technologies, The Software Guild, and Hollins University. She has also worked for the public relations firm Ketchum, developing messaging strategies for national organizations. Previously, Ms. Stoney worked at Hill Knowlton Strategies on rebuilding public trust and credibility for nuclear energy following the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan.

"As a $427 billion industry with nearly one million workers, plastics have an important story that needs telling," said Mia Freis Quinn, vice president of communications. "Ashley's tremendous background in consumer communications makes her well equipped to tell this story and showcase plastics as the material of choice, emphasizing industry innovation that impacts ranging from healthcare and medical devices to building and constructions to automotive and packaging. We are excited to have Ashley as a part of the SPI team and to help shape the plastics narrative."
