Roy Swift, Ph.D., executive director of Workcred, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate, recently presented at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2017 construction industry show in Las Vegas, where he spoke at a special session on behalf of the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). The CONEXPO event, which takes place every three years, featured more than 150 education sessions and over 2,400 exhibitors.
Dr. Swift participated in the March 7 session, "What Does Certification Have to Do with Qualification?" and highlighted the characteristics of certifications, which are often used in professions associated with health, safety, finance, and security. Dr. Swift leads efforts for Workcred, which was formed in 2014 to strengthen workforce quality by improving the credentialing system, ensuring its ongoing relevance, and preparing employers, workers, educators, and governments to use it effectively.
"The event was a great opportunity to highlight the importance of identifying quality credentials and to increase awareness about how to differentiate the credentials that have market value," said Dr. Swift.
