People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
The Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Dan Bond its new executive director. Fred Stringfellow, the association's previous executive director, has stepped down but will continue to be involved in WMMA/Stringfellow Management Group in a strategic capacity.
Prior to joining WMMA, Mr. Bond held senior leadership roles with the Synthetic Turf Council, Shipbuilders Council of America, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He holds a graduate degree in management as well as the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential. Mr. Bond is an active member of ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership, where he is a member of its Public Policy and Fly In Task Force, as well as a Power of An Ambassador.
"I am honored to be selected as the next executive director of the Wood Machinery Manufacturers Association (WMMA)," said Bond. "U.S. woodworking machinery and woodworking tool manufacturers and the businesses that support them are an essential part of the U.S. manufacturing base. I look forward to contributing to the over 100 year old history of providing excellence in training, research, education, and diverse member programs and services."
The American Bankers Association (ABA), an ANSI member, has appointed Peter Cook as executive vice president and chief communications officer. In this role, Mr. Cook oversees the association's public relations, member communications, and brand marketing departments, in addition to the ABA Foundation.
Previously, Mr. Cook was with the Department of Defense, where he served as assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs as well as Pentagon press secretary. He was the principal advisor to the secretary of defense on communications and public outreach issues, and managed a public affairs organization that produced multi-media information on DoD operations worldwide. In addition to his experience at the Pentagon, Mr. Cook brings with him over two decades of work as a journalist. Most recently, he served as chief Washington correspondent for Bloomberg Television. He also worked for NBC News and MSNNBC, covering the Pentagon during the start of the Iraq war.
"Peter's career covering the intersection of business and government has given him extensive knowledge of the financial services sector, policy, and regulation -- along with the operational expertise that comes from overseeing a public affairs shop that included 2,000 personnel," said ABA president and CEO Rob Nichols. "His experience makes him the perfect choice to lead a communications department that serves as the voice for America's critically important banking industry and its 2 million employees. We're very pleased to have Peter join us in this vital role."
