The American National Standards Institute's Nanotechnology Standards Panel (ANSI-NSP) will host a meeting, free of charge to all interested participants, at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC, on March 20, 2018 from 10:00 a.m.- 5p.m.

Established by ANSI in August 2004, ANSI-NSP provides the framework within which stakeholders can work cooperatively to promote, accelerate and coordinate the timely development of voluntary consensus standards that are intended to meet identified needs related to nanotechnology research, development, and commercialization.

The meeting on March 20, 2018 is a continuation of the February 28, 2017, NSP meeting, which focused on the need of graphene related standards to assist in commercialization. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) defines graphene as a "single layer of carbon atoms with each atom bound to three neighbours in a honeycomb structure." It is anticipated to revolutionize a number of industrial sectors, from electronics to automotive industry to medicine. Both ISO and theInternational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have been active developing standards on this material, but more work is needed.

Participants on March 20 will consider observations from last year's meeting and hear presentations from relevant stakeholders on their specific standards needs.
