NSF International, an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced two changes to their leadership team.
Dave Purkiss has been appointed to the position of vice president, global water division. In this role, Mr. Purkiss will lead the organization's global water programs, including certification programs for the quality and safety of products used in municipal water treatment, water distribution, residential drinking water treatment, plumbing, pools and spas, and wastewater treatment.
Previously, Mr. Purkiss was the interim director of NSF's global water division and general manager of the plumbing products program. He has been with NSF for 30 years, working in all areas of water treatment and distribution and serving as general manager of municipal water products, general manager of drinking water additives, and managing director of the UK Water team. He has worked on several major initiatives in the water industry, including contributing to the development of NSF/ANSI 223, Conformity Assessment Requirements for Certification Bodies that Certify Products Pursuant to NSF/ANSI 60: Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals - Health Effects.
"Dave is a recognized leader with extensive knowledge of all aspects of the water industry - from water treatment chemicals and distribution systems to pipes, plumbing products, and residential drinking water treatment and filtration devices," said Kevan Lawlor, president and CEO of NSF International. "He has worked alongside manufacturers and our internal teams as well as public health organizations and regulators. Everyone appreciates his thoughtful approach and steady demeanor as well as his deep knowledge of the water industry and public health issues."
NSF also announced the addition of Julie Timmer to its senior staff as vice president and general counsel. Ms. Timmer will provide counsel to NSF leaders on legal, risk, and compliance aspects related to the organization's business initiatives, policies, employment relationships, and compliance issues. She will also serve as a liaison among leadership, the Board of Directors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders for all legal and compliance matters, review and develop negotiated agreements, and advise on the long-term planning and expansion strategies for the organization.
Prior to joining NSF, Ms. Timmer was senior counsel at Maxion Wheels, where she led corporate legal activities; provided counsel on global, regional, and local legal issues; and developed legal frameworks that supported the company's business strategy. She began her law career as a litigation associate specializing in commercial litigation in state and federal courts, employment litigation, employment counseling, and labor contract negotiations. Ms. Timmer is also an accomplished novelist and speaker.
"Julie's experience will be valuable as we navigate the legal and regulatory complexities associated with our global work," said Mr. Lawlor. "I'm confident that she will be instrumental in furthering our mission to protect and improve human health worldwide."
