The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released its comprehensive report on the ANSI Executive Roundtable on Strategic Standardization and Competitiveness, which focused on the importance of standards and how they drive U.S. innovation and competitiveness. The report provides stakeholders' feedback on successful strategic standardization, key challenges within the conformity assessment and standardization community, and participants' recommendations for ANSI in its role as the coordinator of the U.S. standards system.

The May 22 meeting, an invitation-only event, was an outcome of a 2017 meeting between ANSI leadership and U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, which highlighted ANSI's role in relaying how market-driven standardization benefits the public and private sectors and underscored the importance of U.S. leadership in global forumsinspiring further conversation for the executive roundtable.
Executives from 10 major U.S. companies with global operations participated in the event, representing a range of industry sectors, including electrical power, heavy equipment, the built environment, advanced manufacturing, glass/optical, information technologies, and services. Walter Copan, U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and Nazak Nikakhtar, Assistant Secretary for Industry and Analysis in the International Trade Administration, were also participants.
