U.S. Department of Energy Issues RFI for Appliance Standards Program

10/31/2018

ANSI encourages stakeholders to submit feedback

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has issued a third Request for Information (RFI) seeking comment on possible changes to the federal appliance standards program. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages stakeholders to submit feedback by November 16, 2018.

DOE's most recent RFI, titled "Request for Information on the Emerging Smart Technology Appliance and Equipment Market," solicits stakeholder input on "the emerging market for appliances and commercial equipment that incorporate smart technology."

The DOE seeks information on the use of smart technology in appliances to ensure that the agency "does not inadvertently impede such innovation in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities in setting efficiency standards for covered products and equipment." ANSI encourages stakeholders, particularly manufacturers and importers of smart appliance technology, to participate to address any issue they consider worthy of further discussion.

To submit comments, see the RFI in the Federal Register, and access the regulations.gov portal.
