NECA Emphasizes Importance of Carbon Monoxide Detectors
The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a reminder for all readers that carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are critical to have in the home for your family's health.NECA states that only about 50 percent of homes in America that use a fuel burning appliance like a gas water heater, gas clothes dryer, or gas cooktop/oven, or a gas-powered vehicle in an attached garage, have an approved CO detector installed and operating. Without a CO detector to alert of unsafe levels of this colorless, odorless gas, individuals may develop chronic conditions from long-time exposure of low levels of CO, or acute conditions from short-term exposure to a large level of CO.
