Did You Know?

7/05/2019

Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

New WDMA Website Provides Resources on High-Performance Windows and Doors
The Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched a new website that provides builders, architects, and remodelers with educational and informative content on designing, specifying, and selecting high-performance windows, doors, and skylights.

OpenUptoPerformance.com features blog posts, videos, podcasts, and webinars that guide professionals in making informed decisions about high-performance products for their customers. The website covers current trends and news, innovations in the field, pertinent research, sustainability and energy efficiency, and performance and standards guides.

WQA Advises Homeowners Review their Municipality's Consumer Confidence Report
The Water Quality Association (WQA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recommends that all homeowners read the Consumer Confidence Report for their municipal water supplier to learn important information about their drinking water quality.

"Anyone concerned about the quality of their family's drinking water should take a look at the important information in the CCR," said WQA Executive Director Pauli Undesser. "The report not only informs residents about the source of their drinking water, but it also provides recent test results about what contaminants may be in the water. If your CCR states the water in your community is safe, but it still tastes or smells bad, you might want to do further testing or treatment. That's especially true if your community still has miles of lead pipes, as so many do."

Reports can be accessed online or in the mail. Most reports are posted on the water system's website. The EPA's site also links to community water quality reports, although reports for all water systems may not be available there. Read more about the Consumer Confidence Report in the WQA news item.

International Standards Development for Solid Biofuels Progresses; U.S. Participation Encouraged
The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, serves as the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) administrator to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 238, Solid Biofuels. ASABE, as coordinator of U.S. input on developing standards, encourages all relevant stakeholders to participate in its standards development process. ANSI is the U.S. member body to ISO.

ISO TC 238 convened recently in Seoul, South Korea to continue development efforts for international standards for solid biofuels. Participants discussed standards for the classification of hog fuels and wood chips for industrial use, updated terminology, and identification of sulfur and chlorine content. They also addressed a simplified sampling method, water sorption of thermally treated biofuel pellets, and separating fines testing into distinct protocols for reference and simplified testing.

ASABE encourages all interested in participating in these standards to contact Scott Cedarquist, ASABE standards director, at [email protected]

VITA Posts On-Demand Webinar on SOSA Profiles and Standard
VITA, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has posted a free, recorded webinar on the OpenVPX architecture and its evolution since the Sensors Open System Architecture (SOSA) consortium's adoption of the standard.

"How Updates to SOSA Profiles are Increasing the Adoption of the OpenVPX Architecture" addresses updates to the profiles, including how and why they've been added to or updated in the standard; how the slot profiles were designed to meet VPX requirements, and how they map to common types of VPX modules; and new developments in SOSA for power, including why the decision was made to go to 12V and the role of power in chassis management.

The presentationis freely available after registration. See VITA's website to learn more.
