In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:
Boat Fittings and Equipment
When a boat is in the dock, it's critical that the equipment used to secure the vehicle is designed effectively, well-suited to the type of boat in use, and installed correctly. The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has developed a standard that provides guidelines on this equipment. ABYC H-40-2019, Anchoring, Mooring, and Strong Points, applies to the design, construction, selection, and installation of fittings and equipment that are attached to or carried on boats for anchoring, mooring, docking, lifting, towing, and trailering.
An ANSI member and accredited standards developer, the ABYC is a non-profit membership organization that develops safety standards for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of recreational boats. The organization also provides technical education, training, certification, and professional development through seminars, workshops, and technician certification courses that increase knowledge and professionalism in the boating industry.
