In the interest of public health and safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced today that World Standards Week (WSW) 2020 will transition to a series of virtual events. To be held October 19-23, 2020, the virtual meetings will include ANSI’s member forums, policy advisory groups, and the Annual Business Meeting.
Other official World Standards Week events, including ANSI’s Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony, will now be held during WSW 2021, scheduled for October 25-29, 2021, in Washington DC, when people can come together in person more safely.
Call for Leadership and Service Nominations is Extended through 2021
The ANSI Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony, originally scheduled for October 21, 2020, will now be held on October 27, 2021. In order to recognize additional deserving candidates, the call for nominations is extended through February 15, 2021. In light of these unique circumstances posed by COVID-19, the ANSI Awards Committee may recognize more than one candidate for the medals and awards that are typically awarded to only one recipient in a given year. For more information, including how to submit a nomination, visit www.ansi.org/awards.
“World Standards Week is a longstanding tradition and major highlight of each year, so ANSI is pleased to host several events virtually in 2020,” said S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. “Protecting the health and safety of our members, constituents, and employees is our top priority. This approach will allow ANSI and the U.S. standardization community to recognize the achievements of 2020 – including our community’s significant COVID-19 response efforts – while creating a safer opportunity for us to celebrate together in person in 2021.”
Additionally, the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day, co-chaired by ANSI and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and traditionally scheduled during World Standards Week, will not be held in 2020. World Standards Day 2021 will be celebrated on October 28, 2021, in Washington, DC, with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) serving as the 2021 WSD administrating organization.
