IAPMO Offers Free UPC and UMC Illustrated Training Manuals and Study Guides Online
IAPMO, an ANSI member and audited designator, has made its 2018 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) Illustrated Training Manuals and Study Guides available at no cost for a limited time.

The manuals and guides are being offered for free online access in order to facilitate home learning while classes may be cancelled or delayed due to social distancing measures. Readers will have access to the entire code, along with hundreds of photos and graphics to expand specific sections of the code. The materials also provide multiple choice questions, serving as a useful tool for self-study as students seek to better understand the requirements of each code.

"Understanding that so many of our members and associated organizations are instructors and/or students, who may require access to these documents while learning from home, we felt it was imperative to remove any roadblocks to their continued education by making them available in this manner on a temporary basis," said Dan Cole, IAPMO senior director of technical services. "With many adult and vocational schools closed right now, we hope users will benefit from this limited opportunity and further their knowledge of the Uniform Codes during this unprecedented time."

ICC Marks 40th Annual Building Safety Month
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched their annual campaign for Building Safety Month.

Celebrated each May and in its 40th year for 2020, Building Safety Month is an international campaign that raises awareness of the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes, and informs people and businesses on what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. This year's celebration features four weekly themes: disaster preparedness; water safety; resiliency, sustainability, innovation; and training the next generation. For each weekly theme, participants can learn how codes improve safety and support communities

Stakeholders can access promotional materials, a campaign toolkit to connect with their local community, safety tips, and more on ICC's website.

ISEA Accepting Applications for Annual $2,500 Scholarship
The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Daniel K. Shipp Scholarship.

The annual scholarship awards $2,500 to a full-time undergraduate college student, based on academic and extra-curricular achievement and financial need. Applicants will preferably be enrolled in majors geared toward a career in safety and health, including environmental science, fire protection, health physics, industrial engineering, industrial hygiene, and occupational health and safety, among others.

"Our world, our communities are coming together to support each other," said Craig Wallentine, chairman of ISEA's Board of Trustees. "We have watched the courage and tireless dedication of fellow health and safety workers during this time, and we want to encourage and foster that dedication in future industry heroes."

WellSpan Health Offers Healthy Tips for Working at Home
WellSpan Health, an ANSI member, has published an article with advice on how to remain healthy and in your best physical shape while working and staying at home during the pandemic.

Above all, the article encourages you to make sure you move frequently. Consider "doing the opposite" of whatever position you're frequently in (like sitting at the computer) - if your arms are bent, take time to straighten and stretch them several times a day. If your head is forward and looking down, move it back and look up. All joints and limbs should be stretched in the opposite direction at regular intervals. Standing and walking while on the phone and incorporating small exercises like sitting down and standing up 10 times in a row are simple ways to increase your movement throughout the day.

The article also offers tips for ensuring your work station is set up correctly, such as having your knees and elbows at a 90 degree angle, and aligning the top of your monitor with your forehead.
