As the U.S. member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is seeking comments on a proposal for a new ISO Technical Committee (TC) focused on standardization of materials and components used for roof design and construction processes, as well as materials used for waterproofing in construction. ANSI seeks input by April 23, 2021.
GOST R, the ISO member organization for Russia, submitted the proposal, which explains that the consumption of roofing and waterproofing building materials is expected to grow, spurred by rapid urbanization in emerging economies and continued expansion in advanced economies. Moreover, as infrastructure is the vehicle for transforming low- and middle-income countries into emerging or developing ones, the quality and performance of building materials need to be extremely consistent.
According to the proposal, the creation of a new ISO TC will provide an opportunity to develop a basic set of foundation for roofing material international standards. Currently, ISO standards for this aspect of construction materials have not been developed yet.
Review the proposal and submit comments to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy and strategy, at [email protected], by close of business on April 23, 2021. Based on input received from U.S. stakeholders, a recommended ANSI position and any comments will be developed and presented at the ANSI ISO Committee (AIC) for approval before ISO's voting deadline of May 12, 2021.
ANSI has published an explanatory information document outlining the process used to develop U.S. positions in issues and activities under consideration by ISO and IEC.
