People on the Move

5/14/2021

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has added two senior directors to its leadership team earlier this year.

Ladan Bulookbashi is one of AAMI’s new senior directors of standards, focusing on device-specific standards areas. In this role, she is the team lead of the AAMI device-specific standards portfolio, supporting national and international standards development for several device committees. She will also work with AAMI’s Standards Board to maintain and implement the organization’s standards program policies and procedures.

Prior to joining AAMI, Ms. Bulookbashi was an engineering manager, standards for the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). She has also worked with the Aluminum Association, serving as a standards specialist and a senior standards specialist. Ms. Bulookbashi has also been a metallography lab specialist, and holds a bachelor’s degree in extractive metallurgy from the Tehran Polytechnic (AUT).

Ovidiu Munteanu has joined AAMI as a senior director of standards, overseeing general standards areas. He oversees the horizontal standards that apply across devices, such as quality systems and risk management. He also ensures that ANSI and ISO/IEC procedures are being followed in both domestic and international standards development committees.

Previously, Mr. Munteanu was working for the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), where he managed standards development processes. Prior to that, he led UL’s effort to develop its capabilities to test to international standards. Mr. Munteanu has also worked for several major high-tech companies and start-ups. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics, a master’s degree in computer science, and an MBA.

AAMI published an interview with Ms. Bulookbashi and Mr. Munteanu where you can learn a little more about the new senior directors, including how they got interested in standards work, what they find strange or interesting about working in standards, and the one standards document they would choose to be left with if stranded on an island. Read the interview on AAMI’s website.
