People on the Move


People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Board of Directors has announced Pamela Arora as its next president and CEO. After a year serving as acting president, Steve Campbell will remain engaged with AAMI, where he will work on the transition and his roles as AAMI’s COO and executive director of the AAMI Foundation.

Ms. Arora, who serves on the AAMI Board, most recently served as senior vice president of strategic technology at Children’s Health System of Texas, where she was chief information officer for 14 years.

At Children’s Health, Ms. Arora was responsible for directing technology efforts to support capital projects planned and underway at the system. Before joining Children’s Health in 2007, Ms. Arora served as SVP and CIO at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, MA; CEO of LiquidAgents Healthcare; and CIO of Perot Systems in Dallas, TX. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Wayne State University and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

“Over the past several years, AAMI has invested in the people and systems necessary to support the needs of our members as we continue to advance the field of health technology. With Pamela coming on board, we are poised to begin an era of greater growth and extraordinary possibility,” said Steve Yelton, chair of the AAMI Board of Directors.

“I’m honored to be chosen to lead AAMI as its next president and CEO. I first moved into the healthcare technology field for several reasons, including the industry's readiness to adopt technological transformation. But the most important reason is the mission of using technology to improve the health and livelihood of those around us. That’s the goal of AAMI’s many stakeholders, and it’s at the very heart of AAMI’s role as a trusted, neutral convener,” Ms. Arora said.


VITA has announced that Dean Holman is its new president and executive director. Jerry Gipper, VITA’s previous executive director, will continue as the organization’s marketing director.

Mr. Holman joined VITA in 2021 as assistant executive director. He has contributed to VITA for many years, beginning in 2004 when he was the technical editor of the VITA 46 working group. In 2011, he was elected by the board of directors as chairman of VITA’s standards organization, where he leads the bi-monthly standards meetings and guides the working groups through the standards development process. Prior to joining VITA, Mr. Holman was with Mercury Systems for nearly 25 years, where he most recently served as the senior director of global mission assurance. He holds a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University.

"I am honored and extremely excited to be taking on this leadership role within VITA," Mr. Holman said. “I look forward to applying my experience in building international teams, driving process/quality improvements, and ensuring customer success to lead VITA in its ‘open standards, open markets’ mission of producing open interoperability standards to enable future system designs.”


Health Level Seven International (HL7) has appointed three executives in new standards and standards implementation divisions.

Daniel Vreeman is the organization’s new chief standards development officer, leading HL7’s standards development division. Dr. Vreeman is a physical therapist, biomedical informatician, and expert in health data standards. He has developed internationally adopted health data standards, implemented them in multi-institutional health IT systems, evaluated their use, and provided strategic advice on U.S. and international interoperability initiatives. Prior to joining HL7, Dr. Vreeman was the senior clinical data standards lead at RTI. Previously, he served as the director of LOINC and health data standards at Regenstrief Institute. He has been an active HL7 member since 2006, acting as the technical director for the HL7 Gravity Accelerator and the chair for the Health Standards Collaborative, as well as being a founding member of the HL7 FHIR Foundation.

Viet Nguyen has been named HL7’s chief standards implementation officer, leading the standards implementation division along with Diego Kaminker.

Dr. Nguyen is an internist, pediatrician, and clinical informaticist who has served as the chief pediatric resident at University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s. He also completed an informatics fellowship at the University of Utah. Prior to joining HL7, Dr. Nguyen founded Stratametrics, an informatics consulting firm for commercial and federal clients. He has nearly 20 years of experience in health information technology focused on interoperability standards and product development, as well as many years of activity with HL7. Dr. Nguyen served as the technical director for the HL7 Da Vinci FHIR Accelerator, and is a nationally recognized FHRI education and an HL7 board member.

Diego Kaminker was appointed as the organization’s deputy chief standards implementation officer, working with Dr. Nguyen to lead the standards implementation division. An expert in interoperability and implementation of healthcare information technology, Mr. Kaminker is the founder and owner of KERN IT with specialties in integration, software development, and project management. He has participated in the HL7 community for two decades, serving multiple terms as chair of HL7 Argentina as well as an affiliate director of the HL7 International board of directors. Mr. Kaminker has defined, implemented, and maintained hundreds of HL7 interoperability projects, and is a prominent HL7 educator who has led hundreds of training courses and created the self-paced online HL7 Fundamentals Course.

“We are excited to have such accomplished and globally recognized individuals join the HL7 executive leadership team,” said Charles Jaffe, CEO of HL7. “Each of them brings their unique skills and experience with HL7. We expect that the impact of their leadership will be felt in the near term and in the years to come.”
