ANSI’s annual student paper competition is currently calling for submissions written about the 2022 theme: Standards Support Innovation, Cooperation, and Excellence at the Olympic Games. Entries for this competition are due by 11:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
Applicants are asked to consider how standards support the sporting events at either the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo or the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, particularly standards that address the unique needs and health and safety challenges that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Submissions should reference specific American National Standards and/or international standards and the organizations responsible for their development whenever possible.
All papers must be written and submitted by enrolled college or university student(s) at the associate, undergraduate, or graduate level enrolled in a U.S. academic institute of higher learning. The competition is open to both full-and part-time students of all disciplines. Papers must not exceed 2,000 words and must be formatted in accordance with the submission criteria.
Submissions will be reviewed by top-level industry experts participating on ANSI's Committee on Education (CoE) as well as by ANSI staff. A small number of finalists will be invited to give an online presentation to the review team before a winner is chosen.
Winning entries will be published on ANSI.org and potentially in other media outlets. Winning submissions will be shared with and widely read by the domestic and international standards community, including experts in government, industry, professional societies, and academic institutions. Cash prizes will be given to first- and second-place winners; ANSI reserves the right to award no prizes based on the determination of the judges.
The winning papers will be announced in Q3 2022.
