People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The HR Certification Institute (HRCI) has appointed Dr. Denise Caleb as the first president of its subsidiary, the newly formed Human Resource Standards Institute (HRSI). Caleb will provide strategic vision for the company, which offers organizational certifications for human resource management built on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards.

Caleb has more than 25 years of experience in executive-level C-suite strategy, partnership and business development, human resources, diversity, sales, and marketing leadership. She will leverage her experience and network to evolve the organization, creating a roadmap for its strategic expansion and progressive growth in private and public business sectors. Caleb completed the Harvard Business School Global Executive education program, holds a Professional in Human Resources certification from HRCI, and earned a Lean & Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Colorado State University and a D&I Certificate from Cornell University.

“Dr. Caleb is one of the most thoughtful and visionary HR leaders I have met, and I am thrilled that she has agreed to lead the new Human Resource Standards Institute,” said HRCI CEO Dr. Amy Schabacker Dufrane. “She has been an integral part in the creation of this organization and its mission and is the perfect person to help HRCI move HR into our next chapter of HR leadership by expanding the opportunity to prove expertise in HRM at an organizational level.”

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) has announced that Jacob Handel is its new senior director, Indigenous relations.

Handel brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the in the environmental field, Indigenous and stakeholder engagement, strategy development, regulatory processes, and negotiation. Previously, he was an Aboriginal affairs advisor at a leading Canadian paper and forest products manufacturing company. He has expertise working for governments, the energy sector, and nonprofits. Handel earned a bachelor of science in environmental and conservation sciences from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and strives throughout his work to tie together Indigenous relations and the environment.

“SFI is committed to building and promoting forest-focused collaborations that recognize and respect Indigenous Peoples’ rights and traditional knowledge,” said Kathy Abusow, president and CEO of SFI. “Building strong and meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples is a priority for SFI, and I’m so happy to have Jacob in this role as part of SFI’s senior leadership team so that we can continue to grow, engage, and strengthen our network of Indigenous partners across the U.S. and Canada.”
