People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has named Dr. Winifred L. Williams as senior vice president, communications, governance services, and human resources.
In her role, Williams will lead the CAP in developing the organization’s strategies and implementing plans to elevate communications, governance, human resources, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She will work with the executive operations team and the board of governors to identify and address emerging issues and trends that may impact members, customers, patients, and employees, while working to support and sustain a healthy, high-performing culture enterprise-wide with an emphasis on staff and member engagement.
Williams joins the CAP from Loyola University Chicago, where she successfully led and evolved Loyola’s Human Resources function and practices. She has more than 20 years of executive human resources leadership experience.
“I am excited to support the mission and vision of the CAP and the member pathologists’ pursuit of advancing the health and safety of humankind around the world through the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine,” Williams said. “The CAP is an outstanding organization filled with wonderful people, and I look forward to engaging as a community to build on the organization’s strengths. My professional experiences will enable focus on enhancing strategic alignment, facilitating change adaptability, and leading human capital management. I believe these strategies will strengthen both our value proposition and the CAP’s employer brand in the marketplace.”
The CAP has also named Akshay Patel as vice president of information services (IS), responsible for the full information services function, including project management office (PMO), organization change management, and technology innovations—namely interoperability, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
Patel joined the CAP in 2001 as a project manager and rose through numerous leadership roles in IS including director of solutions delivery, director of strategy and sourcing, director of PMO, and, most recently, senior director of technology innovation and portfolio management.
“I am looking forward to providing leadership to help us further advance our mission and make an impact,” said Patel. “I want to build a sustainable IT organization that provides effective, innovative, and secure technology solutions that allow the CAP to deliver business value and drive member and customer loyalty. My priorities will be in improving the member/customer experience across channels, digital innovation, bolstering employee experience and engagement, increasing operational efficiency, and modernizing CAP systems. Our technology investments over the next several years will be critical to our success as we enable our people, simplify work streams, and sustain our growth.”
