Deadline Extended: The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages its members and constituents to contribute to ANSI's coordinated response to the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Request for Information (RFI) on the implementation of the United States Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology (USG NSSCET).
To contribute to ANSI’s coordinated response on behalf of the private-sector standardization community, please submit comments to Mary Saunders, ANSI's vice president for government relations and public policy, at [email protected] by COB December 1, 2023.
Stakeholders may also submit comments directly to NIST by December 22, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. ET. See the Federal Register Notice for information on how to submit comments to NIST.
Released in May 2023, the USG NSSCET outlines U.S. government goals to advance U.S. competitiveness, protect the integrity of standards-developing ecosystems, and assure the long-term success of the U.S. innovation ecosystem, with a focus on critical and emerging technology (CET). It commits to increasing U.S. government support for the private sector-led standards system, and calls out its alignment with the United States Standards Strategy (USSS) published by ANSI.
To inform the USG NSSCET implementation, including how to best partner with relevant stakeholders, the RFI seeks information that will “support the identification and prioritization of key activities that will optimize the USG NSSCET implementation and further enhance the U.S. Government’s ability to support a private sector-led, open, consensus-based international standards system, to which the U.S. Government is an active stakeholder and participant.”
ANSI encourages all relevant stakeholders to respond to the RFI, including industry (including start-ups and small- and medium-sized enterprises, academia, civil society organizations, standards developing organizations, and international partners. Responses may address any topic believed to have implications for the implementation of the USG NSSCET, and should where possible be keyed to one of more of the questions posed in the RFI. Please note that the RFI questions posed cover both general and objective-specific topics.
