Department of Commerce RFI Seeks Input on AI-ready Open Data Assets and Data Dissemination Standards

4/24/2024

Respond by July 16

The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather insights from industry experts, researchers, civil society organizations, and other members of the public on the development of AI-ready open data assets and data dissemination standards.

Responses to the RFI must be submitted by July 16, 2024. See the Federal Register announcement for more information, including instructions on how to submit a response.

Last year, the DOC’s Data Governance Board launched the AI and Open Government Data Assets Working Group, which aims to develop guidelines for publishing DOC data that can be consumed by emerging AI technologies such as Generative AI. This RFI is one of the working group’s initiatives to collaborate with the private and public sectors as it explores producing AI-ready data.

The working group plans to publish its learnings from the RFI as guidelines and best practices by the end of 2024.
