On September 16, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) hosted a visiting delegation from Enterprise Singapore, the national standards body under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, at its Washington, DC, office to exchange information on the U.S. and Singaporean standards systems, the latest developments of precision medicine standards, and the private sector’s role in standards and conformity assessment activities. Participants from the U.S. and Singapore shared a wealth of valuable insights in the in-depth discussions, fostering a mutual understanding and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
Experts from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee (TC) 215, Health informatics, also held separate meetings with the delegation throughout the day.
Joseph Tretler, ANSI senior vice president of international policy, welcomed the guests to ANSI and the United States. ANSI and ANAB representatives highlighted the U.S. standardization system, explained the distinct roles of ANSI and ANAB, and discussed the relationship between the public and private sectors in the system.
Led by Choy Sauw Kook, Director-General of the Quality and Excellence Group at Enterprise Singapore, the Singapore delegation also introduced their domestic and international initiatives and standardization efforts in healthcare, as well as the country’s biomedical ecosystem with a targeted focus on health and human potential through precision and preventive medicine.
