Reminder to Register: ANSI Virtual Company Member Forum on October 30

10/11/2024

Sessions on Competencies for Standards Professionals, IBR, and Copyright and Standards

Registration is open for the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) Company Member Forum (CMF) meeting: a platform for industry members to discuss national, regional, and global standards and conformity assessment issues, and to collectively influence U.S. policies related to domestic and international standardization.

ANSI’s Company Member Forum will include virtual sessions on October 30, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET. Register today and access the draft agenda on the CMF registration page.

Many ANSI company members cite cross-industry networking through the CMF as one of the primary benefits of ANSI membership, as it facilitates alliances between different industries and cooperative partnering to leverage resources. Any Company Member of ANSI is welcome to attend.

The agenda will include sessions on:

  • Standards Boost Business: This session will showcase how companies can contribute to this initiative, which provides value by demonstrating how strategic standardization can help increase efficiencies and strengthen their bottom line.
  • Systems-Level Committees: This session will provide a brief overview of systems-level committees, which work to develop consistent and comprehensive standards that support interoperability, security, and safety across different domains and industries.
  • Fireside Chat on Competencies for Standards Professionals: As the landscape of technology and industry evolves, so must the competencies of those who work within the standards community. This segment will underscore the importance of defining competencies for standards professionals.
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems: This panel session will provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape, challenges, and future directions for security and AI standardization in Intelligent Transport Systems—emphasizing the importance of collaboration between industry, academia, and regulatory bodies to develop robust and effective standards.
  • IBR and Copyright and Standards – IBR Public-Private Partnership at Risk: This discussion will cover the intricate relationship between standards Incorporated by Reference (IBR’d) and copyright law, exploring the recent challenges and legal decisions that have put the valuable public-private partnership at risk. Additionally, the discussion will highlight the balance between copyright protection and public access to standards, the role of standards developing organizations, and the potential impact on industry practices.
  • Securing Support for External Standards Engagement: This session will provide an overview of parameters to consider when requesting support for standards development activities.
