ANAB Announces Eighth Annual Terry Burgess Assessor of the Year Award Recipient

1/30/2025

The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) has honored Robert ‘Bob’ Yencha with the prestigious 8th Annual Terry Burgess Assessor of the Year Award, recognizing his unwavering dedication to conformity assessment and mentorship.

The Terry Burgess Assessor of the Year Award was established in 2017 to honor the memory of a valued ANAB employee, Terry Burgess. The award recognizes individuals who embody the values of teamwork, going the extra mile, customer service, creativity and innovation, performance excellence, leadership skills, and commitment.

Yencha initially began working with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 2010 with the Product Certification team; ANAB was acquired by ANSI in 2018 and legacy ANSI accreditation programs were then integrated into ANAB’s portfolio. He played a key role in securing recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Health IT Certification Program. Yencha has over 35 years of experience; today, he serves as an ANAB lead assessor for ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17065, supporting programs for health IT certification, telecom security, and laboratory accreditation. His technical expertise and mentorship have also extended to other federal agencies, including NIOSH and NIST.

Beyond his technical expertise, Yencha’s exceptional work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others make him highly deserving of the award. Like Terry Burgess, Yencha is recognized as a mentor, teacher, and trusted colleague. As an ANAB assessor, his dedication to teamwork and going the extra mile has left a lasting impression on ANAB and its customers.

The award was presented to Yencha during ANAB’s 2025 Annual Assessment Development Session in San Antonio, TX. “Not only do I do this for everyone, but I do it for my grandchildren, and I do it for all of your grandchildren,” he remarked, to a standing ovation in the audience.
