Movers and Shakers

6/05/2025

Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Boeing Company has appointed Alton T. Sanders to the role of associate technical fellow in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of technologies and solutions for standards at the company, and his work to establish the Boeing Company as an industry leader in the digital transformation of standards.

Sanders is an industry expert on the digitalization of standards. At Boeing, he specializes in processes and tools for engineering and manufacturing standards and data, and their integration throughout the product life cycle of commercial, defense, security, and space products. His projects have been widely recognized, with many receiving internationally-recognized industry awards.

Sanders is the founding chair of the Digital Standards Alliance consortium. He also serves as a member on ANSI’s Executive Standards Council.

3-A SSI recently honored two industry leaders for their roles in protecting the global public against foodborne illness. Dan Erickson of Harold Wainess & Associates received 3-A SSI’s Leadership Service Award and Greg Marconnet of Mead & Hunt received the Richard K. Smith Advancement Award.

These awards recognize contributions that extend far beyond individual achievement to industry-wide transformation.

Erickson has worked with 3-A SSI for three decades. As a member of numerous working groups, he has been instrumental in developing many of the 3-A sanitary standards and accepted practices that guide food processing equipment design globally. In addition to standards development, Erickson has served as a global ambassador for hygienic design principles. Through leadership roles with the International Association of Food Protection (IAFP) and the Upper Midwest Dairy Industry Association (UMDIA), he has expanded 3-A SSI's reach into critical stakeholder communities.

“While my experience with standards development predates 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc., I consider these years a privilege being part of the formative years of the current organization,” said Erickson. “Working with so many talented and dedicated people and witnessing the growth and food safety influence of 3-A SSI is the true reward.”

Marconnet has contributed 25 years of his expertise to 3-A SSI, where he led efforts to streamline foundational requirements across all 3-A Sanitary Standards, creating the general requirements standard for processors, regulators, and equipment manufacturers. As chair from 2007 to 2009, he spearheaded the evolution of 3-A SSI's annual meeting into the dynamic Summit on Hygienic Design. During his career, he has consistently translated complex technical expertise into accessible education, demonstrating the real-world value of 3-A symbol-bearing equipment to food processors worldwide.

“Volunteer leaders are the lifeblood of 3-A SSI,” said 3-A SSI executive director Meri Beth Wojtaszek. “The extraordinary commitment shown by Dan Erickson and Greg Marconnet has not only advanced our mission but is inspiring others to contribute their time and expertise as 3-A volunteers.”
