Submitted by the national standards body for Saudi Arabia, the proposal includes the following scope statement for a new ISO Technical Committee (TC):
“Standardization of particular aspects related to wound dressings and wound compresses, including but not limited to, design, safety, and performance requirements, and associated test methods for adhesiveness, absorption, waterproofness, and skin-fitting. In addition to standardization of safety controls and terminologies for these products.”
Standardization excluded from the scope includes:
The proposal states that standardization work would “ensure the safety and performance of wound dressing and wound compresses products that are widely used in surgical, ambulance, therapeutic and home healthcare settings.” It emphasizes the need for standardized tests relevant to clinical practice and real-world wound care scenarios, providing measurable performance metrics.
The proposal also notes that there are no existing TCs or standards that address requirements for these products.
Read the proposal and submit comments to Sara Desautels, ANSI senior director of international policy and strategy, at [email protected] by close of business on Thursday, April 23. ANSI will incorporate all input into a recommended position and draft comments for AIC approval ahead of the June 12, 2026, ISO voting deadline.
