ANSI invites your comments by April 23 on a proposal from China's national standards body, SAC, to create a new ISO technical committee on artificial ice and snow landscapes — indoor and outdoor environments built from natural or artificial ice and snow for public enjoyment and recreation, ranging from large-scale constructions and sculptures to ice lanterns.
SAC proposal asserts that international standards are needed to address safety, sustainability, and technological innovation in this area, and to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The scope statement for the proposed International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) reads:
“Responsible for the standardization of safety, design, construction, operation, maintenance and sustainable development of artificial ice and snow landscape constructions, both indoor and outdoor, excluding the standardization in permanent buildings with residential functions (ISO/TC 59), ice and snow sports and recreational facilities (ISO/TC 83), bases for design of structures (ISO/TC 98) and tourism and related services (ISO/TC 228).”
ANSI, the U.S. member body to ISO, encourages stakeholders to read the proposal and submit comments to Sara Desautels, ANSI senior director of international policy and strategy, at [email protected] by close of business on Thursday, April 23. ANSI will incorporate all input into a recommended position and draft comments for ANSI ISO Council (AIC) approval ahead of the June 16, 2026, ISO voting deadline.
