As hydrogen deployment scales, stakeholders are confronted with a rapidly evolving and multifaceted standards environment. To bring clarity, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released its draft Hydrogen Standards Landscape—a free online resource mapping published standards, in-progress development activities from standards development organizations (SDOs), and other guidance and regulatory documents across the full hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, carbon capture, transportation, utilization, and related infrastructure.
Download the draft Hydrogen Standards Landscape.
The Landscape is an informational resource—not a consensus document—that will be refined through ongoing stakeholder engagement over the coming months before being finalized this summer. Content was compiled through direct input from calls for comments, existing landscapes made available to ANSI, and independent research based on publicly available information.
ANSI is still accepting documents to inform the draft. Download the Request for Information to learn more.
Learn More: Attend a June Workshop
The Landscape informs the identification of coordination needs, including assessing standards gaps, aligning frameworks, and connecting work across sectors. To advance these priorities, in-person attendance is encouraged at the ANSI hybrid technical workshop on June 22–23 at the ASME offices in Washington, DC.
Through expert presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative working sessions, participants will:
The workshop will bring together stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and the standards development community to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and advance a more coordinated approach to hydrogen standardization.

Coordinating Hydrogen Standards: ANSI's Ongoing Initiative
The Landscape and workshop are the latest offerings from ANSI's Hydrogen Standards Coordination Initiative, which advances the development and awareness of safety and technical standards across the full hydrogen value chain.
ANSI gratefully acknowledges the generous sponsors making this initiative possible: the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), ASTM International, Compressed Gas Association (CGA), CSA Group, the International Code Council (ICC), and SAE International.
