To promote safer skies, UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) recently launched its passenger awareness campaign focused on lithium-ion battery safety in aviation. New resources include a Q&A webpage about lithium battery safety facts and a campaign toolkit outlining goals, findings, and key messages shaping the effort to educate passengers.
Airlines ask passengers about lithium-ion batteries in luggage due to the potential fire hazards they pose, ULSE reports. To reduce the risk, the organization recommends keeping rechargeable devices with lithium-ion batteries in the cabin and within arm’s reach—never in checked luggage—to ensure quick access should they overheat.
As part of its campaign, ULSE offers ready-to-use graphics and posts, icons designed to help passengers quickly recognize lithium-ion battery devices, and a safety toolkit for airline passengers.
