The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has published an on-demand webinar offering manufacturers’ advice on protecting operations and helping employees stay safe in the event of a hurricane.
According to the NAM’s recommendations, companies should encourage workers to take precautions for their personal safety, such as collecting hazard and emergency information from reliable sources like the Red Cross Emergency App and NOAA Weather Radio. Businesses should set up remote work sites for affected areas, make sure all new employees understand the organization’s hurricane plan, and create a checklist of duties that should be performed from the first day of hurricane season.
“A lot of what you heard about preparing for your home is also what you do to prepared for your company,” said webinar speaker Matt Woodruff, of the Texas-based tank barge operator Kirby Corporation. “You need to have a plan. That plan needs to be written, communicated, understood, and exercised. And you need to be prepared to implement that plan early.”
