ASSP: Ways to Improve Your Organization’s Cultural Resilience and Safety

11/07/2024

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has published several tips on achieving a positive culture that can improve safety across organizations. The organization’s guidelines are inspired by a 2024 ASSP webinar, “Pass the PEACE: Building an Inclusive, Resilient Safety Culture Through Mutually Beneficial Relationships.”

“The pace of change is occurring more rapidly today than it has at any point in our nation’s history, and we have to be attuned to that,” said Julius E. Rhodes, SPHR, founder and principal of mpr group, a human resources and management professional services firm, who led the presentation.

Among its top recommendations, ASSP advises firms to:

  • think about how your personal brand impacts others, which helps to foster a resilient culture;
  • move away from endurance and toward resilience;
  • identify workers/components needed to build resiliency;
  • recognize the factors that impact behavioral change;
  • be consistent about communicating changes; and
  • practice these behaviors consistently.
