NEMA Launches “Make It American” Certification Program

5/01/2025

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has launched its “Make It American” certification program, designed to help the market identify products and manufacturing facilities comply with the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) rules for domestic content.

BABA, enacted as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in November 2021, established domestic content procurement requirements for federally-funded infrastructure projects. It aims to bolster American manufacturing and ensure that federal infrastructure investments benefit domestic industries.

NEMA’s program requires companies to undergo third-party audits of their processes and supply chain management systems, providing clarity to manufacturers, government agencies, and procurement officials looking to source materials with enhanced levels of U.S.-manufactured content. NEMA reports that the program includes certification to the Make It American Process Standard.

“The U.S. electroindustry is the backbone of our nation’s energy system, investing over $185 billion in domestic electrical component manufacturing since 2018,” said Debra Phillips, NEMA’s president and CEO. “NEMA’s Make It American Program allows our nation’s manufacturers to showcase their commitment to U.S. manufacturing, creating even more jobs, and strengthening the American manufacturing sector.”
