A recent feature article published by ASTM International examines how new technology is changing the way theme park visitors experience the thrills of everything from rides to virtual games, and how standards help make safety a reality.
Amusement park popularity is surging: In 2023, 245 million people visited the top 25 theme parks in the world, the organization reports. Major parks have begun integrating virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR) on their rides and other areas to create a more immersive and personalized experience. Given these changes, how do standards drive safety for this sector of entertainment?
ASTM reports that it works with its Memorandum of Understanding program member countries, as well as other partner countries, to bring the highest level of standards to all nations working in the amusement park industry. It also highlights the work of one of its committees that is dedicated to developing a risk-assessment standard that incorporates new and developing technology.
