Hospitals are collaborating with tattoo artists who are using their equipment to perform medical tattooing procedures. But what does the sterilization process look like? A new podcast from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) looks into new guidance under development for processing tattoo machines in healthcare settings.
Tattoo equipment is being utilized across hospitals for plastic surgery procedures including cosmetic reconstruction after mastectomies, post-burn care, or addressing pigmentation issues.
AAMI’s podcast highlights insights from Jennifer Griesen, principal, Strategic Solutions at Aesculap Inc., and Adam Okada, clinical educator at Healthmark, who are co-chairs of an AAMI Working Group that is actively working on the guidance for processing this equipment in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
