Overview

The Executive Committee of the Board (ExCo) reports to the ANSI Board of Directors on significant actions or proposed future plans that may impact the strategic direction of ANSI. The Executive Committee has the power to act for the ANSI Board of Directors between meetings of the Board and will report any such actions to the Board. All ANSI Policy Advisory Groups, Committees of ANSI, and the Appeals Board report to the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee can also establish additional committees, subcommittees, and boards. The Executive Committee typically meets three times per year, usually in the Washington, DC, area.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Committee is responsible for the following (among other things):

  • Approving all memberships, including ANSI Members and membership on Committees of ANSI, and Policy Advisory Groups, and making final decisions regarding the termination of ANSI Members in accordance with Section 2.03 of the ANSI By-Laws.
  • Approving proposals (including those originating from the Board Committees, Committees of ANSI, Membership Forums and Policy Advisory Groups) except those proposals that, in the opinion of the Executive Committee, would impact the strategic direction of ANSI and should be submitted to the Board for final approval.
  • Reviewing and approving management’s proposals as reflected in an annual strategic priorities document before submitting such document or any proposed modifications thereto to the Board for final approval.
  • Approving the procedures and criteria developed and maintained by the Executive Standards Council as reflected in the "ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards" and the "ANSI Procedures for U.S. Participation in the International Standards Activities of ISO."
  • Approving the United States National Committee Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
  • Reviewing and approving the Operating Procedures of all Committees of ANSI, Membership Forums, and Policy Advisory Groups.
  • In conjunction with the Board Nominating Committee, addressing issues regarding the membership of the Board such as needed expertise, background, leadership skills, willingness to participate actively, and inter-organizational relationships.

  • Such additional members of the Board as the Chair of the Board may appoint from time to time with the approval of a three-quarters majority of the directors present at a meeting at which a quorum is present

The ANSI president and CEO is a non-voting member of the ExCo.
