ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposal for ISO Standard on Management Systems for Education Organizations

3/05/2010
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Latvian Standard (LVS), the national standards body of Latvia, are considering the joint submission of a proposal to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for a standard on management system requirements for all education organizations. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments by Friday, April 16, 2010.

The proposed standard specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization demonstrates its ability to meet education requirements and applicable regulatory requirements. The aim is to enhance satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement and assurance of conformity to education and applicable regulatory requirements, and to enable an organization to know the degree to which it fulfills its requirements, controls its resources, and stabilizes its processes.

Specific topics to be addressed by the proposed standard include:

  • Designing, developing, and delivering instruction
  • Testing students' learning
  • Supporting research
  • Providing public service
  • Maintaining support services
  • Satisfying students
  • Meeting expectations of interested parties
  • Conforming to applicable legal and regulatory requirements

All comments should be sent to Steven P. Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the April 16 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comments, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) for formal approval.
