Fully Networked Car Workshop to Drive "Car of the Future" in March

The "car of the future" will be the focus of the upcoming workshop, Fully Networked Car, at the International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 7-8, 2012. Now in its seventh year, the event brings together the key players behind the standards and technologies that help give the green light to the next generation of automobiles.

The workshop is organized by the World Standards Cooperation (WSC), a partnership comprising the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Transatlantic Partnerships
Electric vehicles and e-mobility were a focus of the October 12 ANSI-ESO conference, Transatlantic Standardization Partnerships on E-Mobility/Electric Vehicles, Energy, and Security, held in Washington, DC, as part of World Standards Week 2011. The event brought together 150 standards setters and senior policy makers from the U.S. and Europe to discuss standards policy issues essential to the economies on both sides of the Atlantic. On November 17-18, the ANSI Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (EVSP) will convene for its second plenary meeting to continue work on a roadmap identifying the standards and conformity assessment programs needed to enable the widespread acceptance and deployment of electric vehicles and associated infrastructure in the United States. The Fully Networked Car provides a unique opportunity for the automotive industry to engage with the three organizations and discuss the needs and priorities for international standards in coming years.

Driving the main focus of this year's discussions will be how international standards can support the development of "the car of the future" and the intelligent transport systems (ITS) that will support it.

Through a series of roundtable panels and discussions, the workshop will explore a number of related topics, including but not limited to:

  • electric vehicles and electromobility

  • regional perspectives on intelligent transport systems (ITS)

  • safety

  • ITS communications

The Fully Networked Car welcomes experts and executives from the automotive industry, ICT community, standards developing organization, government, research and development institutes, and academia. The workshop will be accompanied by an exhibition that will showcase the latest technologies and concepts in the field.
