The British Standards Institution (BSI), the United Kingdom's member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), has submitted a proposal for a new international standard that would assist organizations worldwide in developing and implementing effective anti-bribery measures. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) invites all interested stakeholders to submit comments on the proposal by Friday, December 14, 2012.
According to the proposal, the standard would create a set of requirements to address bribery risks in the public, private, and voluntary sectors, and would be applicable to organizations of all sizes and types. The standard would address only bribery as defined by the laws of the country a given organization is operating in and would not provide guidelines for reducing related criminal offenses such as fraud or money laundering. In addition, the proposed standard would take into consideration information and guidelines contained in a number of relevant documents, including ISO 27001:2005, Information technology - Security techniques - Information security management systems - Requirements, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
All comments on this proposal should be sent to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director for international policy ([email protected]). Feedback received by the December 14 deadline will be reviewed and compiled for the recommended ANSI position and comment, which will then be presented to the ANSI ISO Council for formal approval.
