Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.
ASTM International recently presented its 2025 Award of Merit to Richard Lund for his contributions to the organization’s standards work as part of its packaging committee.
The award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM committee activities. Lund is recognized for “his ability to foster compromise, indispensable work on over 60 packaging standards, 24-year leadership on the subcommittee on corrugated packaging, and seven-year service as the committee's recording secretary.”
Lund has been an ASTM member since 1986. He was previously honored by the committee with the Alfred H. McKinlay Award (2023). He is the owner and principal consultant of RC Lund Consulting, LLC.
NSF International recently announced the appointment of Steve Haan as vice president of its water division. He succeeds Dave Purkiss, who retired after 37 years of dedicated service to the organization in April.
Haan will assume his predecessor’s responsibilities, leading NSF’s global water team and its offices in the U.S., the UK, greater China, Korea, India, Dubai, and Belgium. In his new role, Haan will grow NSF’s water programs that help assure the quality and safety of products used in municipal and residential drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, water distribution, plumbing, pools, and spas.
Haan joined NSF in 2024 as the vice president of business development. Previously, he was a vice president and general manager at Nalco Water, a division of Ecolab providing specialized water treatment, process water treatment, and wastewater treatment solutions to industrial customers. He has worked with different business models, including capital equipment, field service, and SaaS businesses.
“Steve has more than 23 years of experience leading cross-functional teams and delivering exceptional outcomes for clients that operate in the water industry,” said Pedro Sancha, president and CEO of NSF. “We are excited to welcome him to NSF’s executive leadership team.”
“Globally, we are facing emerging contaminants in our water, including PFAS and microplastics, requiring products that meet industry standards and work how they claim to,” said Haan. “The need for NSF’s scientific capabilities and independent testing and certification services has never been greater, and I am honored to step into this role and expand Dave’s legacy of improving water quality worldwide.”
