Updated every five years, the U.S. Standards Strategy is a foundational document that guides how the U.S. develops standards and participates in international standardization, establishes a shared vision for the future, and articulates the value of private sector-led, market driven standards solutions. The 2025 update presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the value of America's private sector-led standards system and its proven ability to deliver results that enhance U.S. safety, quality of life, and global competitiveness.
Your Input is Essential
ANSI encourages interested stakeholders to review the draft strategy and submit comments to [email protected] by September 19. Please focus feedback on these key questions:
Supplementary Documents:
ANSI is developing FAQs to accompany the published strategy. Please recommend questions or suggest additional companion documents that should be valuable.
Because standards underly all conformity assessment activities, ANSI also maintains the U.S. Conformity Assessment Principles (USCAP). This document serves as a strategic companion to the United States Standards Strategy, and articulates the principles for U.S. conformity assessment activities. The USCAP is currently undergoing comprehensive review and will be published alongside the revised United States Standards Strategy in January 2026.
Strategy Session at ANSI Innovation Summit: Your Role in Shaping Innovation and Competitiveness
On October 21, ANSI will host an interactive session on the 2025 U.S. Standards Strategy at the upcoming ANSI Innovation Summit in Rockville, MD. Stakeholders—including industry leaders, technical experts, standards developers, and members of consumer advocacy groups, academia, and government—are encouraged to participate and share input on how to most effectively communicate and implement this strategy following its publication in January 2026.
Recommendations will help influence how ANSI and the broader standards community roll out initiatives that drive innovation, open global markets, and enhance U.S. competitiveness across sectors.
