The Advancing Standardization for Critical and Emerging Technologies (ASCET) Center of Excellence (CoE) has released an environmental scan mapping the current quantum standardization landscape and identifying pre-standardization gaps with the greatest impact on U.S. leadership in the field.
Spanning computing, communications, sensing, and measurement, the scan assesses quantum standardization at all levels by:
“Quantum is at the inflection point where pre-standardization activity—testbed development, benchmarking, reproducibility—will determine whether formal standards arrive in time to support U.S. competitiveness,” says Mohsen Seifi, Ph.D., ASTM vice president and principal investigator for ASCET. “This scan gives stakeholders a shared map of where that work is happening, where it isn’t, and where coordinated action is most consequential.”

ASCET’s “Closing the Quantum Standards Gap” webinar on April 28 will review the scan’s findings, exploring the current direction of quantum standardization and how experts can align to close critical gaps. Registration is now open.
About ASCET
ASCET is a cooperative agreement between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and ASTM International that supports private sector-driven engagement in international standards development. ANSI is an implementing partner of ASCET, along with ASME, the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) Robotics, CSA Group, IEEE, and UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE).
