ISO and the IEC have released a new version of Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for IEC and ISO Technical Committees (Version 2.0, 2026), offering practical direction on the responsible use of AI within Technical Committees.
Access the full document on the ISO and IEC websites.
The document outlines acceptable AI use cases across three categories of tools—individual tools, national member licensed tools, and ISO/IEC licensed tools—and clarifies the roles and responsibilities of officers and experts participating in technical work. Grounded in principles of accountability, respect for privacy, avoidance of bias, safety by design, and transparency, it also addresses key considerations related to confidentiality, intellectual property, and data protection.
The guidance is designed to help committee members leverage AI to enhance efficiency and creativity while safeguarding the integrity and trust of the international standards development process.
