Movers and Shakers

7/01/2026

Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of leaders in diverse areas of standardization, contributing to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance system.

The American Society of Safety Professionals Foundation recently announced two awards that recognize outstanding contributions to mentorship and leadership development within the environmental health and safety (EHS) profession.

Emmanuel Winful is the recipient of the ASSP Foundation/BCSP Distinguished Mentor Award. This honor recognizes a mid- or late-career safety professional who demonstrates a sustained commitment to mentorship, and who fosters leadership, engagement, and a culture of continuous improvement in EHS.

Winful is the health and safety manager at Auburn University. Over the past decade, he has mentored more than 20 early-career professionals with an effective approach that emphasizes clear goals, accountability, and continuous growth. He imparts in his mentees a deep understanding of how systems and humans interact to create safety.

Winful is an ASSP Advisory Group Member and Black Safety Professionals (BSP) Advisory Committee Member, helping broaden access and opportunity in engineering and safety fields by equipping individuals with tools and guidance for success.

Hayley Taylor is the recipient of the inaugural ASSP Foundation/BCSP Wooten Next Generation Award. This award recognizes an early- to mid-career EHS professional who demonstrates leadership in fostering the next generation of safety leaders, advocating for new professionals and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for those entering the profession.

A senior environmental health and safety engineer for Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), Taylor has spearheaded Earth Day cleanups, networking events and other initiatives to foster connection and belonging among early-career professionals within ASSP and the broader EHS community. She connects with emerging professionals at CFS by organizing technical tours and participating in college career fairs, showing students a clear pathway into high-tech safety careers.

Taylor is co-chair of the ASSP Greater Boston Emerging Professionals, where she connects early-career professionals with ASSP members to help them feel engaged and empowered to drive the profession forward.
