Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of leaders in diverse areas of standardization, contributing to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance system.

The Boeing Company has promoted Stephen Walls to senior manager of its Product Standards Office (PSO).

Walls is a recognized leader in standards policy and strategy with over 15 years of experience in systems design, integration, test execution, and project management. He has served as chair of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO’s Technical Committee for Aircraft and Space Vehicles; chair of the Aerospace Industries Association Standards Governance Council; and vice chair of the ANSI Company Member Forum. He is also a member of the ASCET Advisory Board and participates in ANSI’s International Policy Advisory Group, National Policy Advisory Group, and ISO Council.

In his new role within PSO, he will engage with global standards bodies, align Boeing-wide engineering practices, and accelerate the adoption of approaches that improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across aircraft programs.

Walls holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, an MBA, and certifications in project and standards management. He is a Boeing‑designated expert in systems engineering and the recipient of ANSI’s 2024 Next Generation Award.

The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) recently announced the promotion of Christopher Carnahan to vice president of standards. Carnahan previously served as the assistant vice president of standards at AIA.

“Few people have had a greater impact on the aerospace and defense industry than Chris,” AIA president and CEO Eric Fanning said. “Through his leadership of the Aerospace Industries Association’s National Aerospace Standards, he has helped make aerospace manufacturing safer, more efficient, and better focused on quality. After nearly 18 years at AIA, this promotion is well deserved, and we look forward to his continued contributions in the years ahead.”

During his career at AIA, Carnahan has overseen the development, maintenance, and global distribution of NAS standards as well as AIA’s national and international standardization work and has served as staff liaison to AIA’s Standards Governance Council. He is a founding member of the Digital Standards Alliance.

Previously, he served as manager of standards operations at the Compressed Gas Association. He is a 2025 ANSI Meritorious Service Award recipient.
