Battery Council International recently announced the appointment of Renee Langdon as its new events director.
Langdon will lead BCI’s entire event portfolio—from the BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo to member webinars and educational programming. She will work with the organization’s partners and members to boost attendance, elevate programming, and enhance event experiences.
Langdon has over 10 years of experience in the trade show and event industry. Most recently, she held marketing management positions for Estes Forwarding Worldwide. Previously, she served as marketing director for Legacy Logistics.
Alexander Maraghides of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was recently named a 2025 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal honoree for his 25 years of groundbreaking research on protecting people and buildings from wildfires, and his role in creating actionable guidelines to mitigate fire disaster.
Maraghides, a fire protection engineer, was awarded by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit organization that recognizes federal employees for exemplary work in making America “better, safer, and stronger.”
“For more than two decades, Alex has demonstrated an unmatched ability to identify the most important lessons from wildfires,” said Joannie Chin, director of NIST’s Engineering Laboratory. “He then uses a variety of tools to convey these lessons to state and local officials in ways that they can understand the problem and develop solutions tailored to protect their communities.”
Among his projects, Maraghides’ most recent investigation was the 2018 Camp Fire in California, which involved interviewing hundreds of firefighters, with minute-by-minute details, culminating in an extensive report of over 1,000 pages.
He also leads efforts to support the agency’s Hazard Mitigation Methodology, which provides guidance and instructions on how to prevent a wildfire from spreading, and Evacuation and Sheltering Considerations: Assessment, Planning, and Execution (ESCAPE)—a practical guide for how to prepare for wildfire sheltering and evacuation.
