A new National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) examines how volunteer fire departments are adapting as firefighters continue to leave the U.S. emergency response system.
Guest experts Joe Maruca, board member of the National Volunteer Fire Council, and Ken Willette, executive director of the North American Fire Training Directors share insights on a new study that looks at what effects training requirements have had on volunteer fire department recruitment and retention. Both experts contributed to the study. They also discussed what is being done to bring more volunteers into the fire service.
