ULSE’s Marootian Shares Air Travel Safety Tips for Rechargeable Batteries

3/20/2026

With spring break kicking off across parts of the country, UL Standards and Engagement (ULSE) CEO recently shared safety tips to keep in mind when traveling with rechargeable devices in the skies.

A guest on CBS News LA, Jeff Marootian shared that each traveler carries four devices powered by rechargeable batteries, according to ULSE data.

“The most important thing to do is be mindful of where you’re packing them. They should never be packed in checked luggage. On flights, they should always be within reach. And if there’s an incident, if you notice a device begins to smoke or overheat, notify the flight crew right away so that it can be properly dealt with,” he noted.
